7-Eleven: expands business into Indonesia

Dallas / TX. (prn) 7-Eleven Inc., the world’s largest convenience retailer with 36’000 stores worldwide, has announced plans to expand its business into Indonesia through a Master Franchise agreement with PT. Modern Putraindonesia (PT. Modern) of Jakarta. PT. Modern is a retailer and manufacturer of photographic, electronic and telecommunications products with more than 1’000 outlets in the country – and a subsidiary of PT. Modern Internasional TBK. Indonesia will become the twelfth Asian country where 7-Eleven Inc. licenses or offers master franchises for the operation of its 7-Eleven stores. The others are The Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Macao, China, Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand. PT. Modern Putraindonesia will target to open its first 7-Eleven-branded outlets in Jakarta later this year. The company expects to construct new 7-Eleven stores as well as converting some of its existing locations. PT. Modern´s initial plans are to focus on opening stores in Jakarta, targeting densely-populated commercial and office areas, to offer working Indonesians a convenient place to shop for lunch, snacks and emergency items. The company’s goal is to focus on opening stores in Jakarta in its first years of operation. Other major cities, such as Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya, offer future expansion opportunities.
