Washington / DC. (ipa) Robert J. Whann IV, president of Leidenheimer Baking Company in New Orleans, has been elected chairman of the Independent Bakers Association (I.B.A.). Whann succeeds John F. Popp, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Aunt Millie´s Bakeries Inc. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The succession took effect at a ceremony at the conclusion of the 35th annual I.B.A. meeting in Washington. With roots dating back to the 19th century, Leidenheimer bakes a range of hearth bread products. Whann is the great-grandson of George Leidenheimer, who established the baking company in 1896 after moving to New Orleans from Deidesheim in Germany.
About: The Independent Bakers Association is a Washington, D.C. based national trade association of over 400 mostly family owned wholesale bakeries and allied industry trades. The Association was founded in 1968 to protect the interests of independent wholesale bakers from antitrust and anti-competitive mergers and acquisitions; pressure Congress to support market-oriented farm commodity programs; seek representation and consider federal labor, tax and environmental law.
