HCMC / VN. (tn) The United States´ Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will increase the number of its restaurants to 100 in the next three years from 38 now. It is running profitably eight years after entering the country, Vietnamese «Thanhnien News» says.
Another American fast food specialist, Pizza Hut (also Yum! Brands), is expected to open 20 restaurants in Vietnam, mainly Ho Chi Minh City, by 2010. It has invested around one million USD to open its first two restaurants in the country.
Japan´s Lotteria, though still making losses in Vietnam (Thanhnien News says), plans to open more outlets. It has 35 restaurants in major centers now. Lotteria is the chain of fast-food restaurants similar to McDonald´s, and now with branches in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. It takes its name from its parent company, Lotte. Lotteria opened its first shop in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, Japan in 1972 (Wikipedia says).
McDonald´s and Starbucks of the USA are expected to arrive in the near future. McDonald´s is likely to open its first restaurant in Vietnam later 2007 (source).
