Panera Bread: revenue jumps 28 percent

St. Louis / MO. (wib) Panera Bread Company reports that revenue jumped 28 percent in the second quarter as its systemwide same-store sales climbed 2,3 percent for the four weeks ended June 26. In that period, company-owned bakery-cafe sales rose 2,1 percent and sales in franchise-operated units were up 2,4 percent. For the quarter ended June 26, the firm´s revenue increased to 253 million USD (2. quarter 2006: 197 million USD). Panera plans to report its earnings for the second quarter of fiscal 2007 after the market closes July 24, according to a release. During the quarter, 39 new bakery-cafes were opened, including 17 company-owned and 22 franchise-operated; 32 bakery-cafes were also acquired by the company from franchisees, one bakery-cafe was sold by the company to a franchisee, and five bakery-cafes were closed. Missouri based Panera Bread Company owns and franchises bakery-cafes under the St. Louis Bread Company and Panera Bread Company.
