Albert Heijn opens largest ever Home Shop Center

Zaandam / NL. (ad) Albert Heijn is starting to deliver groceries from a new 20,000 square metres Home Shop Center (HSC) – the brand’s fifth and, by far, largest facility. Located in Amsterdam, it will employ around 1,000 people, collecting 40,000 orders per week and delivering them to customers in Amsterdam, Haarlem and the rest of the North Holland region.

The new HSC is in line with Ahold Delhaize’s ambition to grow the omnichannel offering. It provides more capacity, better distribution and room to grow home delivery in other regions, which is important for serving the increasing number of customers who want to order online. This growth is partly the result of Albert Heijn’s efforts to make it easier to order online, for example through the nationwide rollout of its delivery subscription option, and a lower minimum order amount in the middle of the week.

The facility, which is large enough to hold the entire Albert Heijn assortment under one roof, has been completely renovated and provided with enough power that it will eventually be able to use only electric cars for delivery. The brand already delivers groceries by electric delivery car and bicycle to some customers in Amsterdam and aims to switch completely to electric transport in this area in the coming years (Photos: Albert Heijn).
