Mexico City / MX. (gb) As part of its commitment to caring for the environment, Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V. announced that over the next four years, starting in 2020, its fleet of electric distribution vehicles in Mexico will grow by 4,000 units, representing an investment of 2.8 billion MXN (approximately 145.97 million USD or 132.09 million EUR on 2019-11-18).
To achieve this goal, Moldex, a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo, which has been engineering and producing electric vehicles since 2012, will be responsible for providing 1,000 units per year over a period of four years. These vehicles will be integrated into various distribution routes in the country, thereby supporting the company’s commitment to developing innovative solutions to benefit the planet.
It is important to note that these distribution trucks are «wind powered,» meaning that their batteries are recharged using clean energy generated by the Piedra Larga wind farm, located in Oaxaca, México, thus closing a virtuous and sustainable cycle.
Grupo Bimbo currently operates the largest fleet of electric distribution vehicles in Mexico and one of the largest in Latin America. Throughout the country, the company already has more than 400 vehicles of this type in cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, to name a few.
«In 2012 we started planning and designing what would be Grupo Bimbo’s first electric vehicle. Today, thanks to the talent of Mexican engineers at our subsidiary Moldex, located in Lerma, State of Mexico, we have an electric distribution fleet of more than 400 vehicles, and we are ready to take this big step of expanding the fleet by 4,000 units. This will provide sustainable distribution to corner stores in Mexico using a fleet that will operate without leaving a trace on the planet,» said Javier González Franco, Executive Vice President of Grupo Bimbo.
With initiatives such as this, Grupo Bimbo is continuing to promote innovations to benefit the environment and work every day to build a sustainable, highly productive and deeply humane company.
