Brussels / BE. (fo) Fedima, the EU Federation of Bakery Ingredients Manufacturers, organises a symposium on Managing Food Safety Incidents and Traceability in the Bakery Chain, on 22 and 23 April at the Sheraton City Hotel in Brussels. «The bakery sector was heavily affected by the presence of unauthorised GM linseed last autumn», says Jean Christophe Kremer, Fedima´s Secretary General. «The symposium will explore how the sector was affected and whether it can be avoided or not». The first session will look at the management of food safety incidents with a particular focus on the legal framework as well as crisis management. A particular focus of this session will be the question of legal shortcomings with respect to adventitious presence. On the second day the symposium will further look into the next steps on how to avoid and limit the impact of such incidents, from the standpoints of both the European Commission and the Food and Feed Industry. Speakers include EU Commission officials, representatives of European trade associations and lawyers. The symposium will be of interest to a wide audience active in the bakery and pastry sector from regulatory affairs to marketing managers.
