Doha / QA. (tpq) The recent Cabinet decision to ensure flour and baked goods´ prices are kept at acceptable levels has been welcomed by people from all walks of life in Qatar, including those operating bakeries. The decision, following a proposal by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, called for a reduction in prices of flour. According to «The Peninsula» a second decision authorised Qatar Flour Mills Company to import wheat for storage and subsequent distribution. Although prices have remained at the same levels for 40 years according to some bakers, consumers found that the amounts given for that price were less in weight or quantity. Sizes of certain items were also reduced. The decisions are seen by many as a first step to curb inflation as also to clamp down on cheating of consumers by unscrupulous bakery owners (source).
