St. Louis / MO. (pbc) Sandwich and bakery chain Panera Bread Company says its third-quarter revenue climbed 35 percent compared with a year ago, and narrowed its third-quarter earnings outlook. Sales for the period ended September 25 increased to 276 million USD from 205 million USD last year.
Bakery-cafe sales made up 232 million USD of consolidated revenue, while franchise royalties and fees and fresh dough sales to franchisees made up 44 million USD. Systemwide same-store bakery-cafe sales edged up 0,8 percent for September. Company-owned same-store bakery-cafe sales rose 1,5 percent, while franchise-operated same-store bakery-cafe sales grew 0,3 percent.
Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least 18 months, is a key indicator of restaurant performance since it measures growth at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.
