Stockholm / SE. (lg) Some days ago Lantmännen Biorefineries’ new production facility for extraction of wheat protein (gluten) was inaugurated in Norrköping, Sweden. With its significantly increased production capacity, the robustness of Swedish food production is strengthened and an increasing demand from the industry is met. The new production facility is an investment of SEK 800 million.
Interest in plant-based proteins is increasing as more businesses discover new uses for the ingredients. The raw material, wheat, comes directly from arable land and the members’ farms – Swedish farmers. Without intermediaries, the quality of the raw material, production capacity and the quality of the wheat protein extracted are ensured at a very high and consistent level.
«The demand for Swedish wheat protein is high both nationally and internationally. It is very positive that we can offer more customers our high-quality wheat protein,» says Lars-Gunnar Edh, Head of Energy Sector, Lantmännen. The SEK 800 million investment in the new production facility is a significant expansion of the business in Norrköping, Sweden.
«Through this investment, we strengthen the robustness of Swedish food production and increase export opportunities, while creating additional value from Swedish arable land and our members’ farms. This is yet another important milestone in Lantmännen’s strategy from field to fork,» says Magnus Kagevik, Group President + CEO, Lantmännen Group. Some 30 new employees have been hired for the new facility, which is very positive for the regional labor market.
