Ülker: accelerates digitalization and tech investments

Istanbul / TR. (ubs) Accelerating its digitalisation and technology investments from production to human resources, performance management to sales, Türkiye’s Ülker Bisküvi Sanayi A.Ş. (UBS) commissioned 20 autonomous mobile robots (AMR) at its Gebze Plant. The robots, which can carry 2,600 types of materials, especially raw materials and packaging, will increase efficiency and cost advantage in the factory.

Making effective use of digitalisation and technology at every stage of its business processes, Ülker made a new technology investment at the Gebze Plant. Developed in accordance with the infrastructure of the Ülker Gebze Plant, 20 AMR started to work in the factory for the supply of raw materials and materials.

The robots, which can carry 2,600 types of materials throughout the factory, start working upon the request entered into the system by the plant operator. The robots, which take action upon the approval of the request in the system, take the material from the warehouse and set off to deliver to the specified point. Each of the robots, which can communicate with six lifts and thirty-two doors, can make 150 trips per day, travel 53 km, and move on a 2-kilometre route in the dough house, bakery and packaging floor of the factory. After the robots call the lift and load the goods, they complete their task and then either carry out any other tasks on their route or return to the charging station to wait for a new demand.

Investing to improve operational excellence

Ülker CEO Mete Buyurgan: «We commissioned 20 autonomous mobile robots specially developed for us in cooperation with Arçelik and SK Robotik in our Gebze factory. With robots, we have achieved an important development in terms of efficiency, simplification and acceleration of processes, cost control and sustainability. In the coming period, we will continue to integrate similar technologies into our production infrastructure and continue our investments in line with our goal of operational excellence at Ülker.

«The rapid advancement of digital technologies keeps digital transformation high on the agenda of the business world. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, big data analytics and the Internet of Things come to the fore. We also closely follow technology, especially IoT and Industry 4.0. We closely monitor supply chain processes from end to end and consumer behaviour and trends. With the IoT (Internet of Things) system, we instantly monitor production processes and take necessary actions through PLC devices and sensors on production machines at our Gebze plant. We will continue our digitalisation projects at full speed from now on,» CEO Mete Buyurgan said in a statement in February 2024.
