Polarbröd: plans to invest 20 million Euro

Aelvsbyn / SE. (pb / fn) Polarbröd Försäljnings AB, Sweden´s 3rd-biggest bread company is investing in two of its three bakeries to meet an increased demand for its products in Europe. The manufacturer and marketer of traditional northern flat bread is headquartered in Aelvsbyn, Norrbotten County. Last year the company made 36’000 tons of bread at its bakeries in Älvsbyn, Omne and Bredbyn. Now Polarbröd plans to invest 189 million SEK to improve efficiency and productivity at the bakeries in Älvsbyn and Omne. The company´s bread market share in Sweden amounted to 14 percent. The Swedish retail market is still the biggest and most important for Polarbröd, however, export have increased over recent years and in 2007 consisted of 13 percent. Today, the largest export markets are Norway and France. The family owned company sees even more potential in the export market, in particular in the Russian market. Polarbröd, which has approximately 400 employees, recorded a turnover of 676 million SEK in 2007 (1’000’000 SEK = 105’687 EUR).
