Rio de Janeiro / BR. (gov) Brazil´s farmland increased by 20 percent while its grain production grew 59,3 percent in the 2000 to 2007 period, official statistics have shown. A new report, released by the Institute of Geography and Statistics showed soybean production had seen the greatest rise, with an increase of 62,8 percent in the period under study. Mato Grosso state had the largest share in national soybean production with 26,3 percent, followed by Parana with 20,5 percent and Rio Grande do Sul with 17,1 percent. Parana is Brazil´s top corn producer, accounting for 27,5 percent of the country´s total of 51,8 million tons in 2007, followed by Mato Grosso with 11,8 percent.
