Britannia Industries: enters Sri Lankan market

Kolkata / IN. (bi) Britannia Industries Ltd., one of the leading confectionary manufacturers in India will enter the Sri Lankan market. Atul Sinha, vice president of new business development Britannia India, said Britannia chose Sri Lankan due to the «discerning and sophisticated» nature of its consumers. He further said that he saw great scope for growth in Sri Lanka: «With Sri Lanka having one of the highest per capita biscuit consumption in Asia – four kilograms per capita when compared against the 1,1 kilos in India. Britannia Lanka aims to combine great taste and great nourishment for our consumers. Through our manufacturing and marketing efforts, we are committed to bring customers a range of biscuits at an affordable price». Under the banner of «Eat healthy and think better», Britannia hopes to provide a wide range of biscuits in Ceylon. Britannia Lanka has employed the services of Luckyland biscuits in Kandy to carry out their manufacturing operations. Britannia has invested in upgrading and modernizing the Kandy factory and has imported state of the art machinery including high speed packing machines. The Luckyland factory workforce has tripled since Britannia´s manufacturing process began. The factory also houses special laboratory facilities, supervised by Britannia´s own experts, to check the quality parameters of ingredients and finished products. The brand will be distributed nationally by J.L Morison Son and Jones (Ceylon) Limited.
