Fazer Group: plans expansion in the Baltic region

Helsinki / FI. (tbc) Finnish Fazer Group is planning to expand with an aim to become the leading food company in the Baltic states. In Latvia, the bakery and confectionery company, which reported 17,3 million Latvian Lats (LTL) in consolidated unaudited sales last year, has a 23 percent market share – the «Baltic Course» in Riga reports. Fazer Maiznicas bakery in Ogre is the second largest bread producer in Latvia, while Fazer Amica in Riga with its 36 restaurants and cafes is one of Latvia´s leading caterers. According to the «Baltic Course» Fazer CEO Karsten Slotte said, that the company «… will spend time this year mainly reinforcing the newly created business structure and current market position. This will be the launch pad for expansion in the region». Fazer Group´s turnover for 2009 was 1’441,1 million EUR. In 2009 the group employed about 17’000 people.
