Helsinki / FI. (fg) Fazer Group is planning to make changes in production at the Vantaa bakery. These plans are based on a need to adjust operations and secure the competitiveness of the bakery business in the future as well. Collaboration negotiations will be started at the Vantaa bakery. If carried out, the planned changes may lead to the discontinuation of 45 positions, at the most. «The market situation continues to be even more challenging than predicted, and there has been a significant change in consumer behaviour. We must constantly develop our operations to be able to secure our future competitiveness», says Managing Director of Fazer Bakery Finland Markus Hellström. Bread consumption is declining in Finland. Out of total consumption, the share of bake-off goods is growing and the share of pre-packed bakery products is declining. The share of import has grown significantly. Production volumes have gone down at the Vantaa bakery and, consequently, there is less work in the bakery. Fazer is planning both structural and operational changes to adjust operations at the Vantaa bakery. Collaboration negotiations will be started at the Vantaa bakery, affecting 270 people. The planned changes may lead to termination of employment, positions being made part time or changes in work duties. If carried out, the changes may lead to the discontinuation of 45 positions, at the most. «We will support those whom the termination of employment may affect. We want to further their chances of finding new employment and will liaise with the local employment administrations», says Markus Hellström.
