Presov / SK. (wib) Sarisske Pekarne a Cukrarne A.S. reports total sales of 294 million SKK in 2006 – plus 5,1 percent in relation to 2005. Production costs grew by 8,6 percent to 221,8 million SKK. The industrial bakery company generated added value of 125,6 million SKK.
Bucharest / RO. (mf) Romanian news services spread the message, that the Romanian mill and bakery companies groan under a very high wheat price this year, while the available wheat quantities are five times lower than 2006.
Tel Aviv / IL. (wib) Flour prices are rising in Israel by 35 to 40 percent. Flour mills warned the bakeries about the hike during the last two weeks. The sudden jerk in prices results from spiking flour prices in world markets, by 30 percent in the last month.
Kansas City / MO. (ibc) Interstate Bakeries Corp. (IBC) reports that board member Philip Vachon (49) has resigned as chairman and CEO of Liberate Technologies Inc. (LT), which owned 2,25 million shares or four percent of the US bakery group common stock as of February 28.
Athens / GR. (wib) Greek leading food group Vivartia S.A. said to «Thomson Financial», that it will form a joint company in Saudi Arabia for expansion into the production and distribution of bakery products in Middle East markets.
New York / NY. (wib) New York City´s ban on trans-fat-laden cooking oils, the first of its kind in the United States, is now in effect. Along with the ban, fast-food restaurants are now required to post calories on their menu.
Helsinki / FI. (fg) Fazer initiates strategic co-operation with the Tver bakery OAO Volzhky pekar by purchasing the majority of the bakery´s share capital. Volzhky is the leading producer of fresh bread and coffee bread in the Tver region.
St. Louis / MO. (wib) Quick-casual restaurant chain Panera Bread Company reported purchase of 32 franchise-operated bakery-cafes and development rights for markets in Illinois and Minnesota for about 36 million USD.
Amsterdam / NL. (csm) Dutch food group CSM NV has reached agreement on the acquisition of Titterington´s, based in Woburn, Massachusetts (near Boston) for 23 million USD. The acquisition is effective per June 11 this year.
