(ami) According to preliminary forecasts, in 2009, grain harvest in Russia will probably total 85 million tonnes, as opposed to 108 million tonnes in the previous year, declared Vladimir Putin, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, on August 04. According to the head of the government, the volumes will completely satisfy the domestic requirements of the country. In the current year, Russia plans to export nearly 23 million tonnes of grains, added Elena Skrynnik, the Minister of Agriculture. Russia plans to keep leading positions in the world among other exporters of grains, added Skrynnik. To date, Russia takes the fourth to fifth place among grain exporters in the world, but several years ago the country had to import grains, added Putin (source: agrimarket.info).
