Kiev / UA. (ami) The new 2010/2011 marketing year for grains, especially for wheat, started in Ukraine. Recently, agrarians have just started the harvesting campaign of wheat, due to rather unfavourable weather conditions (daily precipitations). As of the same date, in the previous year, agrarians harvested wheat throughout 131,4 thousand hectares, but in the present year 26,2 thousand hectares only. At the same time, the first indices of wheat yield exceed the previous year indices – the average yield totals 24,7 centner per hectares (23,1 centner per hectares in 2009). Besides, specialists of several companies of southern-eastern oblasts, which provided the preliminary estimation of qualitative parameters of new crop wheat, marked that qualitative parameters of early varieties of wheat were rather high. At the same time, the moisture content in the grain almost reached the level of 20 percent. According to the monitoring of APK-Inform Agency, market participants expect that the opening prices for wheat of the harvest 2010 will lower by 200 to 300 UAH/tonne compared to the harvest of 2009. According to various estimations, the general production of wheat in Ukraine is expected at the level of 19,4 to 20 million tonnes (source: agrimarket.info).
