Espoo / FI. (vv) Vilniaus Duona´s modernized and extended Panevezys bakery started its operations in Lithuania. It is one of the most efficient bakeries in the Baltics, utilizing now the most modern baking technology from dough making to packaging. Vilniaus Duona is part of the Vaasan + Vaasan Group, a leading producer of fresh bread, bake-off, crispbread and other bakery products in Finland and the Baltic region.
«The development of Vilniaus Duona´s production structure is proceeding according to plans. Now we have even better prerequisites than before to succeed in the Lithuanian and the Baltic markets also in the future», says Kalle Tanhuanpää, CEO and Managing Director of the Vaasan + Vaasan Group.
Vilniaus Duona of the Vaasan + Vaasan Group is a clear market leader in Lithuania and it has bakeries in Vilnius and Panevezys. Presently the company is building a new factory in Vilnius, to be opened in the autumn of 2008. In the year 2007 Vilniaus Duona´s net sales were 27,6 million EUR and it employed some 650 persons.
The overall investments to Panevezys counts to nearly ten million EUR. The bakery has now among others up-to-the minute state-of-the-art automation systems, modern production technology and new production lines based on the know-how of the Finnish Vaasan + Vaasan Group. The extension part of the bakery includes a new distribution unit.
Due to modernization and extension the productivity and production volumes of the Panevezys bakery have increased significantly. It produces both traditional rye and wheat products but also innovative novelties to meet the consumers needs.
