Warburtons: 45 million GBP bakery will create 450 jobs

Bolton / UK. (wbl) Family-owned baker Warburtons is to invest 45 million GBP (57 million EUR) in a new plant on the outskirts of Bristol. The «super-bakery», to be built on a twelve acre site at the Western Approach Distribution Park at Severn Beach, will create 450 new jobs.

State-of-the-art machinery is being installed, allowing the bakery to produce more than 1.5 million products each week, the company said in a press release. The company said demand for its products had reached an all-time high. Building work has started at the site following planning approval from the council and the bakery is expected to be fully operational by December.

General manager David Williams said in the company´s statement: «Bristol was a natural choice for our South West bakery as this is where the demand is. Not only is the road infrastructure perfect for distribution to the whole of the region with the M4 and M5 on our doorstep but the site also gives us room to expand as demand increases even further in the future».

Company chairman Jonathan Warburton stated: «We only opened our Welsh bakery in Newport two years ago but we still need more capacity to meet increasing consumer demand. The Bristol bakery will allow us to make a wider range of products for distribution to Wales and the South West, helping us provide an even better service to our retail customers and consumers».
